An Indigenous Party run by Indigenous people to tackle Indigenous issues

We wish to sincerely thank you, and acknowledge you, for showing your support for a First Nation‘s party in Australia.

At the end of August, when we first learnt of the new legislation requiring 1500 members for small political parties, we asked for your help.

Since then, more than 1000 concerned and caring people that have joined the Indigenous-Aboriginal Party of Australia.

This displays a huge community support for Indigenous people and a desire to see action to resolve the issues faced by Indigenous Australians.

Thanks to you, and a community of like minded people, we now have enough members to apply for registration again.

Your action of signing up to join the Indigenous-Aboriginal Party of Australia will help us achieve our shared vision.

Also we must give a special shout our to everyone who helped us spread the word that we needed new members and quickly. We couldn't have done it with out you.

The Registration Process to Date

Indigenous-Aboriginal Party of Australia has been working towards becoming a registered political Party for over a year, and with one day to go our registration was undermined by a change to the electoral laws.

Up until week starting 6 Sep 2021, 500 members were needed to register a small political party. We had met this criteria and submitted our registration documents. The Australian Electoral Commission confirmed our membership, assessed our application, and advertised nationally for objections. The objection period ran out on Monday 6 September.

Then on Monday 6 September the A.E.C rang our office to tell us the rules had been changed and we must now have 1500 members.

The new law came into effect as Labor and Liberal banded together to get these changes rushed through the parliament.
Thanks to the huge community support we now have 1900 members and will resubmit our membership list to AEC this coming week.

What happens next

Once we submit the list, the AEC will check it against their records. All details on the list must match the details they have in their system for you, same address, DOB etc.

AEC will reject our application if there are too many discrepancies. (They allow for a small percentage of ’errors‘ however, will not advise us whose details are incorrect)

We can resubmit the list until we ’get it right‘. The turn around is roughly 2 weeks.

Once the list is approved a sample of members will be selected and contacted by AEC (email or phone) to confirm you agreed to join The Indigenous Party.

If everyone contacted confirms they are proud members of our party the ’Notice of Application for Registration as a Political Party‘ is once again advertised in all major newspapers, with a four-week objection period. And we are back to where we started 6 Aug 2021.

We will let you know when you may be contacted by the AEC.

Keep your eye out for our newsletter. It comes out every month or so, to keep you updated with all things Indigenous Party.

A heart felt thanks from all of us at The Indigenous-Aboriginal Party of Australia.
