Say hello to Mary

Say hello to Mary, a 12 year old Barkingji girl from Mildura.
Mary is hosting our Facebook page for the next month or so.

Go to our Facebook page to say 'hi' and hear about how Mary and her family are trying to make the best of the covid situation, with schools closed and little internet for home schooling.

Mary is very creative and is shown here with some of her wood burning.

Mary also designed one of our T- Shirts available for sale on our website.

Support for Wilcannia

Uncle Owen has been moved by the amount of support and acknowledgement of the devastating impact of COVID-19 on his community of Wilcannia and other communities in Western NSW. A meaningful and practical way to help households would be to contact Wilcannia IGA on (08) 8091 5989 and pay for goods for Uncle Owen to pick up and distribute. They could really use things like water, noodles, potatoes, onions, Panadol, zooper doopers (these really help with the sore throat that comes with COVID), cough medicine, cordial, and exercise books, coloured pencils, texts etc for kids. You could also send non-perishable items to: Uncle Owen, 13 Hood Street, Wilcannia  NSW 2836. He will make sure it reaches households. Please use express or priority post as snail mail can take up to three weeks as it comes via SA. The community would really appreciate the support coming in from around Australia and will make a huge difference to the collective mental health and wellbeing of the community. Your generosity will mean that their lives are a little less difficult.

Honouring the Life of Kahlia Joy Blair

THANK YOU
to everyone who has already so generously donated to this very worthy cause.

The Indigenous-Aboriginal Party of Australia has been touched very personally by the tragic death of Kahlia Joy Blair, a young Indigenous mother of four from Wilcannia NSW. The sudden loss has spurred us into action, especially when we realised there is still no Indigenous suicide prevention helpline, despite promises from Canberra. If Kahlia had a phone number to call at her time of need, perhaps this terrible outcome could have been avoided. Unfortunately, Kahlia's desperate state of mind is all too familiar amongst First Nations people.

Kahlia's funeral is this week. Our thoughts go out to her friends and family.

When will the Indigenous suicide hot line start?
One of our core policies!

In the 2021 budget, the Morrison government allocated $16.6 million for the establishment of a 24/7 crisis hotline specifically designed for Indigenous people. Despite an overwhelming need, made all the more urgent by the pandemic running through outback communities, little has been done to make this essential service available to those in need. Where are the offices? Where is the trained staff? Where is the infrastructure?

Lets light a fire under this issue! Contact your local member by phone, email, text or post and ask this question: When will the Indigenous suicide prevention hot line actually start?

While we wait for meaningful action on this issue, we will use the funds raised so far for an after care service for any Indigenous person who may have called the hot line.
